EMDR THERAPY · ORLANDO & ONLINE

You don't have to keep carrying what happened to you.

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process painful memories — so they stop running your life. Tracy uses it regularly as part of her counseling practice in Orlando and online across Florida.

EMDRIA-trained therapist · In-person in Orlando & online · Insurance accepted

Trauma doesn't always look the way we expect it to. It's not always a single dramatic event — sometimes it's the accumulation of smaller wounds that never quite healed. The criticism that stuck. The relationship that left a mark. The experience you've never quite been able to stop thinking about.

Whatever brought you here, EMDR works by helping your brain do what it was designed to do — process difficult experiences and file them away, rather than keeping them on a constant loop.

WHO IT'S FOR

EMDR may be a good fit if ...

Stuck in the past

You feel held back by something that happened — recently or years ago — and can't seem to move past it.

Body responses

Certain sounds, places, or people trigger physical reactions — racing heart, tension, anxiety — that feel out of proportion.

Self-limiting beliefs

You carry deep beliefs about yourself — that you're not enough, not safe, not worthy — that you can't seem to think your way out of.

Emotional lockup

You feel emotionally numb, shut down, or disconnected — like there's a wall between you and your own feelings.

Burnout & overwhelm

Daily stressors are hitting harder than they should, and you're moving quickly toward depletion.

Confidence & self-worth

You want to strengthen your sense of self and build confidence that comes from the inside out.

You don’t have to have experienced something “traumatic” to benefit from EMDR. If it still affects you, it matters.

HOW IT WORKS

What is EMDR — and what actually happens in a session?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's an evidence-based therapy approach that was originally developed to treat PTSD and has since been shown effective for anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, and a wide range of distressing experiences.

The core mechanism is bilateral stimulation — a rhythmic, alternating activation of the left and right sides of the brain through eye movements, auditory tones, or light tapping. This dual stimulation appears to activate the brain's natural memory processing system, helping distressing memories become less charged and more integrated.

In plain terms: EMDR helps your brain finish processing something it got stuck on — so that when you think about it, you don't feel it the same way anymore.

01

History and preparation

Before any processing begins, Tracy spends time getting to know you — your history, what you're hoping to work on, and whether EMDR is the right approach for you right now. You won't be rushed into anything.

02

Identifying the target memory

Together, you and Tracy identify a specific memory or experience to focus on — along with the beliefs and body sensations associated with it. You're in control of this process throughout.

03

Processing with dual stimulation

While holding the memory in mind, Tracy guides bilateral stimulation — through eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones. Tracy checks in regularly throughout, and you only share what you're comfortable sharing.

04

Installing positive beliefs

As the distressing memory becomes less charged, Tracy works with you to strengthen a more accurate, positive belief in its place — so the shift isn't just about reducing pain, but about building something better.

ABOUT TRACY'S TRAINING

Trained, practiced, and honest about scope

Tracy completed EMDR basic training through the EMDR Institute — an EMDRIA-approved training program — and has continued her education through EMDRIA-approved providers. She uses EMDR regularly as one of several evidence-based modalities in her private practice.

Tracy doesn't position herself as an EMDR-only specialist — she's a well-rounded counselor who reaches for EMDR when it's genuinely the right tool. If you come in asking about EMDR and she doesn't think it's the best fit for what you're working on, she'll tell you that too.

COMMON QUESTIONS

FAQ

  • No. While EMDR was originally developed for PTSD, it's used effectively for anxiety, grief, phobias, self-esteem issues, and any experience that still feels unresolved. You don't need a diagnosis or a dramatic story to benefit — if something is still affecting you, it's worth exploring.

  • Most people describe it as surprising — they expect it to feel clinical or strange, and it doesn't. The dual stimulation is gentle and rhythmic, and while the work can bring up emotion, many clients find it less overwhelming than traditional talk therapy because you don't have to verbally retell everything in detail. Tracy checks in throughout every session.

  • It varies significantly depending on what you're working through. Some people notice meaningful shifts in just a few sessions; others work over a longer period on more complex histories. Tracy will give you her honest read on this after your first few sessions once she has a clearer picture of what you're working with.

  • Tracy is in-network with Aetna, Optum, Cigna and related partners for basic psychotherapy — which includes EMDR. For other plans, she provides a superbill you can submit for potential reimbursement. Coverage depends on your specific plan, so it's worth checking with your insurance provider.

  • Yes. Tracy can offer EMDR online to clients in Florida. Online EMDR uses a slightly adapted form of dual stimulation and is considered effective.

  • EMDR works differently from traditional talk therapy — it doesn't rely on verbal processing alone, which is why it sometimes reaches things that talk therapy hasn't. If previous therapy felt like going in circles, EMDR may offer a different kind of access to what you're carrying.
